The situation at the start

An Unacknowledged Mate Before the Circle

Freya watches a public ceremony turn Aurora into the woman the pack assumes belongs beside Caelum. Because he has never publicly acknowledged Freya, the crowd treats her objection as an inferior's challenge to authority. Her account of a concealed military identity then complicates that judgment: the apparent lack of status is partly the result of enforced secrecy and her own continued decision to hide her background.
