The situation at the start

Thora's Inheritance Is Threatened by Bloodline Prejudice

Ash awakens in Thora's body and learns of a society that dismisses a young mixed-blood girl whose wolf has not appeared. Her grandfather's stated succession plan challenges that prejudice but also creates an incentive for family opposition. Read nonexplicitly, these opening paragraphs connect discrimination with a succession dispute, as Ash pieces together the hostility surrounding Thora and recognizes how a promise of authority has increased the danger from her own family.
